The ideal American Saddlebred is well-proportioned and presents a beautiful overall picture. The animal should be in good flesh, with good muscle tone and a smooth glossy coat. Masculinity in stallions and femininity in mares is important.

15.0-16.0hh, can be higher (to 17.0hh) or smaller (not below 14.2hh)
Colours
The most common are black, bay, chestnut and palomino, but greys, cream dilutes, champagnes, roans, tobianos, sabinos and splash overos are also seen.
Dun, frame overo, rabicano and appaloosa patterns are not seen in the breed.
Naming Guidelines
The name cannot conflict with the name of any other animal registered, living or dead. A conflicting name is one which is judged to be too similar to an existing name either in spelling or pronunciation, e.g., Black Knight/ Black Night.
The Registry shall consider waiving this requirement for horses with the same or similar names with a foaling date of 40 years or more ago and do not have show records and do not have registered progeny.
The name may not exceed 35 characters, including letters, spaces and punctuation.
You cannot use numerical prefixes or suffixes, Jr. or Sr. as suffixes, diacritical marks, punctuation marks as prefixes or initials added as a prefix or suffix to a name already in use, e.g. Wing Commander G.G.
